Import and organize
- Choose Import documents and select files in Android’s picker.
- Review each file before importing. Each import uses additional storage for a separate managed copy. Your source stays unchanged.
- If identical content is found, skip it or keep another copy. You can change the new copy’s display name.
- Open a document’s details, choose a folder, add comma-separated tags and notes, then select Save changes.
Search covers document names, original filenames, tags and notes. It does not read words inside files and does not perform OCR. Use favourites and sorting to return to important paperwork.
Preview, open and share
Supported PDFs and images have an inline preview. For protected, larger or unsupported files, choose Open with and select a compatible installed app. Use an external viewer for zoom, text selection or its reading tools.
Sharing originals does not include catalogue notes or tags. Backups include those saved details. Review your selection and destination before sharing.
Export preserves file bytes; filenames may be shortened or adjusted for compatibility. After saving, FolioNook reads the destination and compares its checksum before offering Open and Share for the saved copy. The chosen provider must permit that readback.
Back up, then keep the backup
Create a backup and save it outside FolioNook. ZIP backups are unencrypted; choose a destination you trust. A cloud-backed destination may synchronize the file using its own services.
A full-library backup includes empty folders. A backup of only some documents includes their folder ancestors. A folders-only library can also be backed up. Document names, original filenames, date added, folder assignments, tags, notes and favourites are preserved. Appearance settings are not included.
Backup creation needs temporary room for the ZIP and an extra uncompressed copy used for verification. A large backup may require substantially more free storage than its compressed size.
Restore validates the archive and its file checksums before adding new copies. Existing documents remain unchanged. Restoring the same archive again adds another set of copies. Keep the original backup if an attempt fails, then select it again to retry.
Supported limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Imported document | 128 MiB per file |
| Backup document payload | 512 MiB total |
| Backup catalogue manifest | 4 MiB |
| Backup items | 1,999 documents plus one manifest entry; up to 2,000 folders in the manifest |
| Document / folder name | 200 / 100 characters |
| Tags / notes | 2,000 / 10,000 characters |
| Inline PDF preview | 100 MiB and 2,000 pages |
| Inline image preview | 64 MiB, with additional decoded-dimension limits |
MiB means 1,048,576 bytes. These safeguards do not guarantee available storage. Files outside preview limits may still open in a compatible external app.
Deletion and recovery
Deleting a managed copy removes its saved details from FolioNook. Source originals and earlier external backups remain unchanged. Removing a folder keeps its documents and child folders, moving them to the parent or library root.
Uninstalling or clearing app storage removes the local library. There is no account or server copy to recover it from: keep your own external backup.
If an export is interrupted or cannot be verified, the destination may contain an incomplete file. Remove that destination and retry; keep your source document and working backup. For a failed import, check free storage and whether the provider can still read the selected file.
Temporary staging, export and sharing copies older than 24 hours are removed at library startup; Android may clear cache sooner. This does not remove an external copy you deliberately saved. If cancellation arrives during the final commit, completed copies can remain—check the library before trying again.
